Some background......" The first models in the E24 series were exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show in 1976 as BMW's first 6-cylinder coupe. In external appearance they echoed previous forms, modifications were made cautiously in order to be able to present the old established at the same time as the new. The E24 differed in that its front and rear screens were set flatter, the roof surfaces were shorter and the proportions were better balanced than those of its predecessors. The integral front apron took over the function of the spoiler, the very compact rear offered a surprisingly large boot space. The car was therefore a visible manifestation of the targeted concept of higher efficiency, speed, roominess and comfort at the same time as a more obvious sportiness. In technology also recourse was sometimes made to tried and tested components, including the middle section of the body platform of the fifth series. Of course many components were subject to modifications, which were without doubt to the advantage of the overall impression made by the car. A striking feature of the series was a centre console that was turned towards the driver, a new design element that would be kept for years in models in this series. The most coveted version of the E24 serieswasto be the 218 bhp BMW 635 CSi that was shown in 1978. This fastest of German coupes rightly caused a sensation. The top-of-the-range model offered a luxurious amount of space, the well-padded dashboard accommodated three large, clearly legible round indicators that were incorporated in a central unit. An on- board computer provided the driver with all the important data. Thanks to computer-controlled chassis and suspension and carefully thought-out engine technology the 635 CSi was easy to steer, with noteworthy and convincing driving characteristics. The CSi was powered by the same high- performance engine as had already been used in the Ml. The 3.5 litre engine offered great power even at low revs, so that the 635 CSi was often inundated with superlatives by the press. Like no other car, the E24 series, the series built for the longesttime in the history of BMW, enabled the 635 CSi to combine everyday usefulness and comfort with sportiness. This 6- cylinder car weighing only 1500 kg reached a top speed of about 228 km/h. It accelerated from 0 to 100 in just 6 seconds. Its popularity was mirrored in the production figures: the 635 CSi accounted for more than half of the total of 86,220 models in the E24 series built by 1989. The 635 CSi was also used for the chief superintendent of police in a German crime series. "........

Detailing the front with Bare Metal Foil, was not easy ...the strips of Bare Metal Foil became sometimes to thin...
