The building of the BMW 635CSI

This is a nice Tamiya kit, with engine details and elaborate decals

Some background......" The state of art in motorsport technology can be seen in the well known Formula and Group C regulation racing cars; however, these racing cars are either developed for racing or extensively modified from production road cars. The Group A racing cars have very limited engine and chassis modification regulations and for this reason, are very popular among motorsport enthusiasts because it provides almost stock cars competing for the checkered flag. In addition, it is much easier for the private racing teams to comply with these restrictions. One of the best motorsport tuners is Schnitzer, who won the 1983 championship title and 1985 Spa Francorchamps 24 hours with their race tuned BMW 635CSL The BMW firm has been synonymous with motor racing for decades and the basic car 635CSI was created benefiting from exhaustive development and successful competition history and regarded as one of the world's finest automobiles. It is powered by a 218ps 3.5 liter SOHC 6 cylinder engine and has a cruising speed of more than 200 km/h. The Schnitzer racing team race tuned this dream car to produce an awesome 300 horse power and trimmed its weight down to an unbelievable 1,185kg in order to meet the regulation requirements, but no matter what they do, BMW's traditional elegance still stands out, even when its a racer that really performs. The finsihed car, (I needed lots of decals-softener), the white-paint was from a tamiya spraycan (enamel)paint. The black-liner on the front-fender could have been "sharper".
